if you’re going to San Francisco

Be sure to wear some flowers in your hair…

As the offspring of immigrants I’ve been all over Europe and Asia, but this is the first year I’ve really traveled within North America. I suppose I should be less surprised than I am since I grew up here, but I’m a big fan of the West Coast. I love that there are mountains (or at least hills) and that you can see the ocean (or at least a big river). I love that people are relaxed and friendly and athletic and drink organic coffee.

Last weekend the manfriend and I were down in San Francisco so I could run the Nike Women’s [half] Marathon. We took cable cars, did a bay cruise, had a picnic in Sausalito, ate at Fisherman’s Wharf, went shopping, fell in love with sea lions and drank Californian wine. I ate a superhuman amount of pasta (I take my carb-loading seriously), mildly crippled myself running the half marathon (next time I’ll train, I promise), and limped around Union Street’s cafes and stationery stores (my weakness).

So if you’re going to San Francisco, I highly recommend Ristorante Milano and La Boulange Bakery. And if you’re not going to San Francisco, you can live vicariously through these photos.
